Pressed
Etymology
From African American Vernacular English, where "pressed" has meant overly eager, desperate, or bothered for decades (also common in ballroom culture). It spread into wider internet slang in the 2010s.
adjective · /PREST/
Excessively bothered, upset, or worked up about something — usually more than the situation warrants.
What it names
It names disproportionate agitation, often pointed out to deflate it: "why are you so pressed?" It reframes someone’s intensity as their problem, not yours.
Example
It was a joke — no need to get this pressed about it.
Related idea
Compare salty (bitter over a small loss); pressed is more agitated and ongoing, and implies caring too much about something not worth it.
