Paper hands

From crypto and the WallStreetBets trading community, which surged into public view during the 2020–2021 retail-trading boom. It was coined as the derisive counterpart to “diamond hands,” contrasting flimsy paper with unbreakable diamond.

  1. noun · /PAY-per handz/

An investor who sells at the first sign of trouble, unable to hold through a downturn — the opposite of diamond hands.

It names weakness of conviction under pressure: the tendency to bail the moment a position drops, locking in losses that patience might have avoided. The image is of hands too flimsy to keep their grip, and the term is usually a taunt aimed at those who fold early.

I had paper hands and sold at the bottom; the people who held made it all back.

The direct opposite of diamond hands: diamond hands hold through anything, paper hands crumble at the first drop.
