Lagom

Swedish. A popular folk etymology traces it to "laget om" ("around the team"), from Vikings passing a horn of mead so each took a fair share — but linguists consider this a charming myth. It more likely comes from an old form meaning "according to law, custom, or proper measure." As a word it usually behaves as an adverb or adjective rather than a noun.

  1. adjective · /LAH-gom/

Just the right amount — neither too much nor too little.

The virtue of moderate sufficiency: enough to be good, not so much as to be excess.

I don’t want it piled high or skimpy — just lagom.

Unlike minimalism, which strips down toward less, lagom aims at the balanced middle, which may be more or less depending on what’s fitting.
