JOMO

An acronym for "joy of missing out," coined as a direct counter to FOMO and popularized by the technologist Anil Dash in a 2012 blog post. It keeps FOMO’s structure but swaps fear for joy. The reversal makes the point that missing out can be a source of relief rather than loss.

  1. noun · /JOH-moh/

The contented pleasure of deliberately skipping what everyone else is doing and being at peace with staying out of the loop.

It reframes absence as a choice with its own rewards, useful for defending the decision to log off, stay home, or ignore an event without apology.

Everyone went to the launch party; I stayed in with a book and felt nothing but JOMO.

It is the mirror image of FOMO — same social equation, opposite emotional sign.
