Zoomer
Etymology
Formed by analogy to boomer, swapping in “zoom” — partly evoking Generation Z, partly the fast, online-native pace attributed to them. Used since the 2010s (at first often mockingly), it settled into a fairly neutral label.
noun · /ZOO-mur/
A member of Generation Z, born roughly between 1997 and 2012.
What it names
It names the generation raised entirely inside the internet and smartphone era, and does so with a rhyme that sets them against the boomers — packaging a whole generational contrast into one word.
Example
The office split neatly down the middle: boomers on email, zoomers on Slack.
Related idea
Boomer names the postwar generation; zoomer is its rhyming opposite for Gen Z — the two words now shorthand a whole generational standoff.
