Rage Applying
Etymology
A 2020s coinage that circulated on TikTok, following the internet template "rage + verb" (as in rage quitting, rage cleaning). The "rage" marks the trigger and the mood; the "applying" is the channel it pours into. It names a familiar impulse that social media gave a shareable label and, occasionally, a happy ending in a better offer.
noun · /RAYJ uh-PLY-ing/
Firing off a flurry of job applications in a burst of anger or frustration with your current role, often after a specific slight.
What it names
A name for job-hunting as an emotional discharge rather than a plan — the moment resentment converts, all at once, into a dozen submitted résumés.
Example
After being passed over again, she spent the evening rage applying to fifteen jobs and actually landed two interviews.
Related idea
Rage quitting burns the bridge immediately; rage applying keeps the current paycheck while frantically scouting the next one.
